From Apparition to Image: The Visual Culture of Fatima
This lecture explores the process of visualizing devotion to Our Lady of Fatima as it took shape from the original series of events from 1915 to 1917 to the creation of images that promoted the devotion in Europe and in the United States over the next half-century. Close scrutiny of what the children reported seeing and how artists and the faithful responded allows us to consider what the visionaires saw and what relation that bears to material representations.
This non-ticketed lecture is free and open to the public.
